Dangers of Type-G lift trucks

The lift truck is essential for completing warehouse tasks. These extremely capable machines raise and move loads of immense size from one place to another. Lift trucks have lots of variations. The main variation is the way in which different units are fueled. "LP" lift trucks are the type which is most common. They utilize liquid propane. Type "E" forklifts have large rechargeable batteries and run on electricity. Type "D" forklifts are powered by diesel and type "G" operate on gasoline. While all lift trucks, similar to any piece of heavy equipment, could pose a danger, the type of forklifts which are powered by gasoline pose the most risks.



Fire

Forklifts labelled type G could present a fire hazard. Gas forklifts are not made with the same rigorous standards. Gas leaks are the biggest cause of fire due mainly to gas leaks and also escaped gas fumes. This could result from normal wear and from accidents or driving on extremely rough terrain. These circumstances pose a risk and can cause fire. Therefore, a typical Type G lift truck should never be utilized in conditions where elevated fire risk is deemed not acceptable. For instance, these kinds of forklifts must not be used around hazardous or explosive chemicals.



Explosion

Type G lift trucks also pose a danger of explosion, as do those that operate on diesel and liquid propane. A gasoline fueled forklift could explode as a result of a serious mishap in circumstances where an ignition source and a gasoline leak are both present. An explosion could take place when sparks are created in the collision and the sparks ignite the gasoline.



Fumes and Exhaust

Because of bad fumes, the gas lift truck does pose a risk for inhalation, that can be deadly in higher concentrations. Fumes could result from the exhaust itself or from gasoline leaks. Thus, a Type G forklift is not suggested for any environment that is poorly ventilated. The exhaust would present a serious hazard in enclosed places. This type of forklift should be used with care when operated near people.
