Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
Scissor lifts are made of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to make an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is vertically raised. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile that is great for concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machines utilize either an electric motor or a combustion engine in order to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, as the lift apparatus just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The standard scissor lift and the rough terrain scissor lift utilize the same lifting technology. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is specifically designed for surfaces which are uneven. These models also provide oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive so as to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift utilizes a telescoping beam that elevates both vertically and diagonally. This particular unit has a small work platform which houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift model and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms that are attached with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting equipment has a bucket or a small work platform which is equipped with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast so as to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Typically, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machinery. These machinery provide an excellent solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is really important to note that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
