Forklift Classifications

The following classes of forklift describe the use and fuel option of every forklift. Certification is required for each class of forklift that the operator would be using.

Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks

These forklifts are available with either cushion tires or pneumatic tires. Pneumatic tires are suggested during dry conditions for outdoor application. The models with cushion tires are designed for smooth, indoor surfaces. These are electrically powered vehicles which utilize industrial batteries, which make them desirable inside closed environments where air quality is an issue. Travel and hoist functions are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units usually utilized everywhere from storage facility to the loading dock.

Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks

This forklift is recommended for places where narrow aisles need to be negotiated. They are effective at maximizing the use of storage space. Their unique design makes them perfect where speed is needed and for small spaces.

Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks

These are battery-powered and hand-controlled models. Utilizing a steering tiller, the operator can operate the lift while standing in front of the truck. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved laterally to be able to steer the vehicle. The smaller capacity units utilize industrial batteries.
