Forklift Components in More Detail
A lift truck is made of numerous parts. The main parts which make up a lift truck are the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. Moreover, a lift truck consists of various kinds of attachments. All the components making up a forklift are of equal importance because they work together to make the machine's functions possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe in detail a few of the forklift components.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the equipment operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would damage the controls inside the cab or hurt the operator. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on various units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle, the mast is the vertical forklift part made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move up and down while providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails can either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast may be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Forklift Carriage - the forks and other kinds of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is attached by chains. To enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage may have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are numerous types of attachments that could be fixed directly to the forklifts carriage. Forks are the most common attachment. Furthermore, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, roll clamps, pole handlers and and all that. These different attachments are really handy for transporting different kinds of loads.
